Description

Dr. William Ryan is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in orthopaedic trauma and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Ryan treats complex fractures around joints, pelvic and hip socket fractures, fractures that have failed to heal properly, fracture-related infections, limb deformity, and complex lower-extremity reconstruction. Dr. Ryan’s approach emphasizes individualized care, diligent surgical planning, and recovery strategies designed to help patients restore mobility and function. When appropriate, he uses minimally invasive techniques and rapid recovery protocols that may allow certain patients to recover safely outside the hospital after procedures that have traditionally required inpatient care. Dr. Ryan received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was the recipient of the Oscar Corn Award for excellence in orthopaedic surgery. He stayed in Philadelphia to complete his surgical internship at Hahnemann University Hospital and his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the DeForest Willard Award for outstanding performance as a senior resident. During his time at Penn, Dr. Ryan was elected Academic Chief Resident and was selected for the AOA Emerging Leaders Program. He then completed fellowship training in orthopaedic trauma and reconstructive surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the highest-volume Level 1 trauma centers in the United States. Before joining Capital Health, Dr. Ryan was an assistant professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he received the John J. Gartland Teaching Award and the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Education. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society, and AO Trauma North America. Dr. Ryan’s academic work includes publications on innovative surgical techniques, textbook chapters focused on patient outcomes, and national committee work examining the mental health burden of orthopaedic trauma. Dr. Ryan believes in an individualized, patient-centered approach to orthopaedic trauma care. He is committed to helping patients understand their injury, navigate treatment decisions, and return to the activities that are most important to them.
